PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
(sung to the tune of "Alexander Hamilton" from Hamilton, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda)
DAROGA:
How's a soprano-chasing, disfigured son of a
mason, who's living far beneath the
Opera House where the Parisians do promenade
in fine brocade and glitter
become a vocal coach behind a mirror?
RAOUL:
This mask-wearing Op'ra Ghost with regal bearing
spent his youth faring for himself and preparing
for a life of wayfaring
'cuz his folks were uncaring
By fifteen, he was a master of arts no point comparing
FIRMIN:
Went 'round the world to learn but soon his bridges were all crossed
and burned at every turn because he kept his guard up
Resigned, he retired to Paris but then one day
he got to build a new opera house with Charles Garnier
ANDRÉ:
Then the Commune came, and devastation reigned
Our man saw his future drip, dripping down the drain
Killed off some punk insurgents, shouted out into the Seine
and he wrote his first refrain, a testament to his pain
DAROGA:
Chose to go underground, Garnier thought he was insane, man
Deep down in the cellars where he set up his domain and
wrote his magnum opus, was the ticket to his fame, and
the world's gonna know his name. What’s your name, man?
PHANTOM:
Phantom of the Opera
I am the Phantom of the Opera
I'll do a million things to frighten ya
Oh just you wait, just you wait...
CHRISTINE:
When he was born his mama reared, full of fear and loathing,
and then she went and stitched him his first scrap of clothing
A mask, two sizes too tight, and stark white
COMPANY:
When Erik got older he ran off in the night
MADAME GIRY and (COMPANY):
Captured by a circus, the circus locked him inside a cage
A living corpse put up on display, disgrace fueled his rage
The boss told him “(Erik) You're looking fit for a rape.”
But Erik grabbed him and stabbed him then he made his great escape
DAROGA and (COMPANY):
Hounded out by everyone and met
with hatred everywhere
He could'a been dead or destitute
and not a soul would even care
Started buildin’, killin’ for the great Shah of Persia
In Mazanderan he got to sate his darkest urge, y'all
(Making) more enemies than you can count on both hands
Faked his death with my help, he took off, watch him now as (ooh)
he treks 'cross the sand headed for a new land
In Paris you can be a new man
COMPANY and (PHANTOM):
In Paris you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In Paris you can be a new man (Just you wait)
In Paris you can be a new man
WOMEN: In Paris
MEN: Paris
PHANTOM: Just you wait!
COMPANY and (COMPANY):
Phantom of the Opera (Phantom of the Opera)
We are waiting in the wings for you (waiting in the wings for you)
Now sit at your organ
Compose your music of the night!
Oh, Phantom of the Opera (Phantom of the Opera)
When Christine Daaé sings for you
Will she turn her face away
from the garish light of day?
Your lives will never be the same, oh
DAROGA and (COMPANY):
A shadow in the opera box, see if you can spot him
(Just you wait)
"I've got another note from the Ghost," says the Madame
(Just you wait)
The opera mob destroyed his home, they thought his reign forgotten
RAOUL, FIRMIN, ANDRE and CARLOTTA:
We fought with him
BUQUET and PIANGI:
Me? I died for him
MADAME GIRY and DAROGA:
Me? I trusted him
MEG:
Me? I feared him
CHRISTINE:
And me? I’m the damn fool that kissed him
COMPANY:
He'll do a million things to frighten ya
So just you wait!
DAROGA:
What’s your name, man?

I occasionally dabble is writing. This one's a companion piece to the Phantom of the Opera/Hamilton mash-up poster art from earlier.
